I got lost in the grocery store the other day. And it wasn’t because they re-arranged all the shelves again. My trips to the store usually take me “around the perimeter,” as they say, where you find more fresh foods and produce. Since I cook our meals from scratch, my grocery cart is almost exclusively loaded with fresh foods- particularly organically grown and raised.
On occasion, I do venture into the center aisles to pick up a few canned or bottled items. On the particular day I’m referring to, I was looking for some packaged item. I don’t even remember what it was, but I do remember going up and down aisle after aisle and getting lost in shelf after shelf of pre-packaged, processed foods. I finally had to ask someone for help. It occurred to me that the reason I couldn’t find anything is that I hardly ever shop for packaged foods- no wonder I don’t know where anything is!
Years ago, I got into the habit of reading labels on everything I buy. It took little time to realize all the JUNK that companies put in their so called foods. Here are just a few of the biggies that are a sure way to harm your health in daily doses:
- MSG (often cleverly disguised by a long list of other names)
- Genetically Modified Foods (the dangers of which are NOT being told to the public as they should)
- High Fructose Corn Syrup (diabetes, obesity and heart disease in liquid form)
- Chemical preservatives and colorings (known to cause all kinds of health problems and allergies)
- Trans Fats (heart disease in solid form)
- Artificial Sweeteners (just plain poison)
Ninety percent of our food dollars in this country go to buying processed foods. Did you get that- 90%! No wonder we are so sick! What you eat does matter. For the sake of your family’s health, get into the habit of really looking at what you put on your dinner table.
Once you get your family to discover the delights of good, clean, healthy REAL food, you won’t want to go back to the empty calories and health harming “food” that comes in all that fancy packaging.
Who knows, someday you too may get lost at the grocery store! Please feel free to leave your comment below.

Empty calories, no matter how much one consumes, leaves one hungry again in a short time. Non-processed foods have by far more of the nutrients that your body needs. If your body is getting the nutrients it needs, it will be satisfied and you will not have the feeling of being hungry. You will naturally be “full”, eat less, and will be overall healthier.

Great information and it’s so important people know the importance of diet and nutrition. It’s one of the key components to optimizing health without drugs or surgery.

Thanks for your comment. It is certainly one of the cornerstones of health. People need to realize the power they have in the food choices they make!
