Avoiding Health Hazards of the Standard American Diet

A few years ago, I came across an interesting post from Dr. Joseph Mercola about what happens to your body immediately after drinking a soda. It was such a great illustration of just how damaging junk foods and beverages can be. Even if you don’t feel any different, there are bio chemical reactions going on inside that are damaging your body and slowly destroying your health. And that goes for all kinds of junk and processed foods, not just soda!

Is Your Brain Degenerating? Do Something Now!

Last weekend Dr. Joe and I attended an excellent post graduate conference on methods to optimize the brain. This conference was put on by Datis Kharrazian  DC, who specializes in neurology and brain health, and sponsored by the University of Bridgeport postgraduate department and Apex Energetics . We left armed with the newest research on ways to nourish the brain, but also with an invigorated sense of purpose to inform family, friends, and patients on the importance of taking care of their brains!

Autism, Aspergers, ADHD: Different Symptoms, Same Cause?

Our basic neuroscience classes have long taught us that our brain communicates to our body through electrical impulses along our nervous system. We also understand the left and right hemispheres of our brain perform different functions and each side must also communicate to the opposite hemisphere.

Antipsychotics: Top Selling Medication. Are We That Crazy?

I was shocked by a recent article that stated the top selling group of medications are the antipsychotics in the amount of $14.6 billion per year. This group includes such medications as Ridperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon, Abilify, Haldol and Compazine. These medications are especially dangerous in the elderly and in children. In geriatric patients they can cause death often due to cardiovascular complications. In children there is an increased risk of suicide. Each of these has an additional list of 25-30 “serious reactions” that inclued stroke, seizures, diabetes, hypertension, anemia, pancreatitis and other blood problems.
