Not A Sore Back Doctor

Posted on November 3rd, 2011

I’d like to tell the story of a real patient we’ll call Tim.  His story illustrates and, I think, will explain the title of my blog.

Tim came into the clinic complaining of middle back pain.  This pain had bothered him off and on for several weeks but, now had gotten constant and was at times quite strong.  In the course of learning his history Tim noted that he also had been having quite a lot of indigestion and heartburn.  But his main concern was making his back feel better.  To Tim I was the “sore back doctor.” (Continue Reading…)

Why Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy is Better for Mom and Baby

Posted on October 25th, 2011

Pregnancy is one of life’s most amazing journeys. Blood volume increases dramatically from the eighth gestational week. Metabolism is increased and hormones change to support growth. A specific hormone, relaxin, is present 10 times its normal concentration, helping to relax joints and ease delivery. A woman’s spine and pelvis undergo tremendous changes and adaptations in order to compensate for the growing baby, and the risk of interference to her nervous system is increased. Most women experience some degree of back pain during pregnancy. So while it is a beautiful process, chiropractic care is especially essential.

Williams Obstetrics tells us the diameter of a woman’s pelvis is decreased when the sacrum is displaced. Chiropractors define this displacement as subluxation, or spinal misalignment. A lifetime of stress and trauma to the spine and pelvis may compromise the pelvic opening, which creates a less than optimum passage for the baby. Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy helps to establish balance in the pelvis, easing delivery. Research has found that 84% of patients who received chiropractic care during pregnancy reported relief from back pain. Most women also had a significantly less likelihood of back labor, which is typically caused by baby being in the wrong position. (Continue Reading…)

Chiropractic Care: It’s Like My Old House

Posted on October 13th, 2010

No this is not a blog about my house, but my house makes for a pretty good analogy when I talk about chiropractic.  Since 3 of us in the clinic are chiropractors I wanted to spend some time talking about how chiropractic fits in with everything we do at Team Health Care.

All chiropractors pretty much agree that the primary thing we do is treat/correct something called the subluxation.  However if you ask 5 chiropractors to define subluxation you are likely to get 8 different answers.  Still, let me wade into those waters and give you my definition.
